The Chester’s Alchemist is officially open for business. Situated on the lively St John Street, The Alchemist radiates a magical energy with its subtle hints of dark magic and wizardry and of course, with their spellbinding cocktails.

Upon entering The Alchemist we were struck by the long antique bar, which was full of a variety of liqueurs and spirits. The new Alchemist site is spread across two levels – the bar on the ground floor and the restaurant dining on the first floor. The bar/restauraunt incorporates the alchemy vibe, with a balance of comfort and style.

What I loved most was that there was a very relaxed ambience and how friendly all of the staff were. We were immediately greeted by the bar staff who directed us to the upstairs area. The restaurant is bright and quirky but still consists with the alchemy theme.

First things first… Cocktails

We grabbed our seats and I was straight onto the cocktail menu, which I loved the look of. If the periodic table looked like this in my science lessons, I’m sure a lot more people would have taken more interest in science.

I was after a tasty cocktail but of course a show stopping one, the waiter recommended the lightbulb moment and it did not disappoint. The mixologists create all of their cocktails with an impressive eye for detail, ensuring that all cocktails set the scene.

(Lightbulb Moment: Tanqueray Gin, Pimms, Ginger Beer, Raspberry, Lemon, Mint.)

Despite having lots of cocktails to choose from, The Alchemist also have a varied and extensive food menu. The menu has something for everyone, which made it extremely difficult for me to choose. I opted for the special fried chicken in a basket, as I was intrigued to see what it would look like and my sister chose the katsu chicken curry. The food came very quickly and it was extremely tasty. The special fried chicken in a basket, was literally served in a basket that was shaped as a chicken and came with fries, red cabbage coleslaw and a sauce which added a spicy kick. The katsu chicken curry was served in panko breadcrumb and served with coriander rice – may I add my sister said it was the BEST katsu chicken curry she had tasted.

The Alchemist really did bring a little magic to life, the service was excellent and most importantly the food and cocktails were divine. I would highly recommend to everyone.
